We opened our practice in July 2001 in the Chamblee–Tucker area. With the gracious support of a dental school friend who shared her office space, Dr. Kwak was able to build the foundation of our practice. These are images of newspaper articles about the opening of the first Korean orthodontic office.
In 2002, we opened our practice on Buford Highway in Doraville, which at the time was the heart of the Korean community. The office was designed by one of our patients, a fine art artist, who incorporated vibrant colors and modern furnishings to appeal to teenagers. During this period, Dr. Kwak also wrote a newspaper column on orthodontics to help educate the Korean community, as orthodontics was still a relatively new specialty for many at the time. It was then that we proudly named our practice Kwak Orthodontics.
In 2006, we moved to our current location in Duluth and changed our name to Blooming Smile Orthodontics. Our spacious office allows us to support every aspect of our practice, including a welcoming waiting area that comfortably accommodates patients and their families, as well as a dedicated employee breakroom that provides our team with personal space to recharge.
We have continued to invest in advanced technology, including a state-of-the-art CBCT X-ray machine for three-dimensional diagnosis and a top-of-the-line 3D intraoral scanner. Most recently, we incorporated an in-house 3D printer to fabricate highly accurate models. This precision helps preserve the hard-earned results achieved by our patients, their families, and our orthodontic team.
As our practice has grown, we have been honored to help hundreds—and now thousands—of patients begin new chapters of their lives with confident, healthy smiles. At the same time, we have watched many of our dental assistants grow professionally, using their experience in our office as a foundation for future success. Members of our team have gone on to pursue careers in dental hygiene, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry. We are deeply grateful to serve as a bridge that helps people reach the best version of themselves.
We are also committed to continuous improvement in patient care. As technology evolves and artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into healthcare, we closely follow advancements in the dental industry to identify tools and innovations that can enhance our treatment process. To stay at the forefront of orthodontic care, Dr. Kwak attends the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) meeting each year, ensuring our patients benefit from the latest techniques and research.
